While project was being performed on the Baikal region, the computer network
of the organisations was created, a number of information and instruction materials
was prepared, the qualification of the participants of the project has been improved,
the experience in the sphere ecological education, methods
for accumulation and dissemination of the information was summarised. The
real step in line of further development of the Project, realization and
distribution of working experience, as well as the database created was the setting up
of the Baikal information center "Gran'".

3. The main activities of the center are:
-collection, processing and dissemination of ecological information on Baikal region;
-promotion of a wide access for national and international public to ecological information on Lake Baikal and Baikal region;
-public involvement in the local ecological issues solution;
-wide access promotion for people to involve them in the local ecological issues solution;
-creation of a wide communication net between ecological organizations of Irkutsk oblast and Republic of Buryatia, as well as with international ecological public;
-creation of a practical material on ecological education for its effective application in the existing local net on environmental education;
-promotion of a qualified improvement of local ecological programs in mass media;
-mediation in the public participation in the ecological legislation improvement.

1) International project of the TACIS Program "Ecological
information and public awareness of the population of the Baikal region".
Within the framework of the given project the following educational seminars
were held and lectures were delivered:
- First regional Forum, Ulan-Ude, September 12-13, 1998.
- Seminar "Concept about GIS-technologies and Internet", Ulan-Ude, December, 1998.
- Seminar "Ecological problems of the Baikal region and the growing importance of the public in their solution", Ust'-Barguzin, January 1999.
- Seminar "Effective methods of distribution of the information. Development of the organization "for the journalists, teachers, state workers and active workers of nature protection organizations, April, 1999.
- Seminar "Modern technologies in ecological education " for the teachers of the republic, April, 1999.
- Competition among the journalists of mass media on the subject "Baikal as a site of the World natural heritage: experience of the solution of ecological problems". 1998 - April 1999.
- Seminar "Using of GIS-technologies and Internet", 29 and May 30, 1999.
2) Seminars "Immersing in ecology" for the senior scholchildren under mini-grant of Interregional Public Fund "The Siberian center of support for the public initiatives", October 21-23, 1999.
3) The members of our organization became the active participants of the following conferences:
- A school - seminar of young scientists - ecologists held by the BINM of the RAS SB and the Buryat branch of the "Russian geographical society", September 28-30, 1999.
- Regional scientific - practical conference "Problems of education on the turn of century", April 20-21 2000.
- On the basis of Baikal Information Center "Gran'" a creative laboratory was carried out, which has acquainted the public with the newest technologies and multimedia
means in ecological education, and also with experience of work carried on by
the German colleagues in this area.
- On the basis of the kindergarten N53 "Kristallik", with the assistance of the Baikal Information Center "Gran'"
an ecological room is open.
